What does it mean to be a Jesus Student?
Jesus called his first disciples with a simple phrase: “Follow me.” Before he returned to heaven, Jesus told his followers to go into all of the world and make disciples, teaching them to do everything he had commanded (check out Matthew 28:16-20).
A Jesus Student is someone who obeys Jesus.
We believe Jesus is not only our Savior; he’s our King and our master as well.
We invite you to join us in following Jesus. Where does it start? It starts with some really good news (that’s the gospel). Scroll down to see it for yourself…
What is the gospel?
God made you.
Human beings are God’s great masterpiece. No other part of creation was made in the image of God (Ephesians 2:10; Genesis 1:26-27).
The same God who created the universe made you as an individual. Each of us was made perfectly, intentionally, and with the purpose of being known and loved by our Creator (Psalm 139:13-14; John 10:10).
We only know what love is because God introduced us to it first (John 15:13, 1 John 4:19).
Because of this love, God has always had a plan for us and for the world.
Satan hates you and sin kills you.
Satan was a part of God’s creation, but through a lie, he caused the first man and woman to choose to disobey God. This was the very first sin.
Sin is when we break God’s law. Sin is doing things like lying, stealing, or craving what doesn’t belong to us. We’ve all done it. This leads to spiritual, emotional, and eternal death in hell: this is the price of sin.
Just like Adam and Eve, we are offered sin – and it might seem good, free and enjoyable. In the end, though, it kills you.
Jesus is God's plan to save you.
God promised the very first people that He would make a way for them to return to Him.
Two thousand years ago, God sent His way: He sent His son, Jesus, to earth to be born as a baby. He grew into a man who never sinned and was killed in an excruciating way, which was God’s plan to pay for our sin.
The price of sin is death. We committed the crime and Jesus paid for our punishment so we could live.
Because no fault was in him, Jesus defeated death by rising again by the power of God three days after he was killed.
The salvation offered by Jesus’ sacrifice is a free gift. The offer is this: he trades places with us. He paid for our sin so that we can have access to God again as our Father and Heaven as our home.
After Jesus died and rose again, all of his followers took the good news about salvation into all the world. This is how the church began and where Christianity started.
You get to choose.
When God made humanity, He gave them the ability to choose how to live. This means that your choices are powerful and have good or bad consequences.
God wants you to choose His love, but He doesn’t force you to.
Choosing God’s love through Jesus’ payment of your sin frees you from sin and gives you God’s Spirit. This brings eternal life after death and close friendship with God here and now.
Satan lies about your choice by promising happiness and freedom if you choose to stay apart from God. While this may feel good at first, it will always lead to death.
It’s your choice:
Continue in the lies and cycles that Satan uses to trap and deceive you, or…
Acknowledge your sins and ask God to forgive you because of what Christ has done. Leave your sins and pursue God’s design for your life. He will help you by His Spirit. Will you choose Jesus? If so, scroll down and let’s pray…
Choose to start fresh with Jesus.
If you’re ready to trust and follow Jesus, it’s time to talk with God. We call this prayer. When you pray, you don’t need to make a big show of it, but you do need to be honest with God. Here’s a way to start:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I’ve done wrong, and I know that makes me guilty. God, I believe Jesus is the Son of God and He died for the wrong I’ve done. I believe that you raised him from the dead. I ask you to forgive me of my sin. Make me clean and fill me with your Spirit. Make me want what you want. Thank you for loving me, God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
